We create space
for locals to thrive

The conservancy promotes community action to achieve better environmental outcomes. It focuses on river systems and remnant veld around Swellendam. We try to solve problems through exciting solutions by bringing people and systems together to the benefit of man and beast.

What we focus on

Community‑led conservation

River Corridors
Restore healthy, connected waterways by clearing invasives and rehabilitating riparian zones. Work with landowners to monitor flow, bank stability, and corridor connectivity for people and wildlife.
Alien Vegetation Management
Develop targeted, sustainable clearing plans tailored to local habitats. Prioritise high‑impact sites, track regrowth, and support follow‑up maintenance to keep corridors clear.
Post‑Fire Recovery
Track the fire cycle and support natural regeneration of bulbs and fynbos diversity. Stabilise soils, prevent erosion, and coordinate seasonal monitoring across affected areas.
Community Awareness
Share practical knowledge through talks, walks, and digital campaigns. Equip households and businesses with everyday conservation habits that reduce risk and build a nature‑positive town.
Collaboration
Coordinate local “green” initiatives across commonage, private land, and public spaces through partnerships with organisations and clubs. Support coexistence by addressing human‑wildlife conflict via response coordination, practical mitigation, and community education.
Fundraising & Support
Mobilise resources for projects that deliver visible environmental benefits. Coordinate grants, sponsorships, and community donations to sustain priority work on the ground.

Why a Conservancy?

A Conservancy is a voluntary association of landowners and community members who choose to manage land in environmentally friendly ways without changing land use. In plain terms: we work together, where we live, to keep nature thriving alongside people.
